CLUSTERFUNK This Friday 2/26!
Greetings, Funk Lovers! Your favorite monthly funk freakout returns to Cameo (back of Lovin Cup, 93 N 6th btw Berry and Wythe, Bedford L) this Friday, 2/26! The classic soul band Milkfat starts the night off right at 10pm. Throwing some afro-beat into the mix will be the formidable Ikebe Shakedown at 11. We've thrown down with these guys before, and let me tell you, it gets messy. In a good way! Turkuaz is set to destroy at midnight, with our favorite DJ THE CZECH spinning the best discofunksoulmotown all night long! And as usual, $5 will get you a shot of bourbon and a High Life (Cameo Special). So come early, stay late, and bring your dancing shoes, 'cause this is gonna be ridiculous.
See you Friday!

I'd like to thanks...
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I cannot put into words our gratitude for all those who took the walk down that hall last Friday, took a free shot of bourbon from a lanky guy in a pink coat (or not if you came too late!) and got down during the night of awesome afrobeat and funk. Thanks to you, Clusterfunk packed Cameo (and The Lovin Cup) and we all enjoyed a raucous night of hard grooves and smooth moves. Good friends toasted their shots of bourbon and chased them with matching PBR's and I ate a grilled cheese that tasted good to me and all were merry like mischievous forest sprites.
Ikebe Shakedown absolutely destroyed it! It's always an honor to share the stage with such a tight horn section, and all of Turkuaz was thoroughly impressed with their grooves. The air is filled with the smell of future collaborations (as in, "do I smell future collaborations?" If not framed in that context, the previous statement might have come off a bit odd). You have not seen the last of these guys.
Thanks also to James Lucius Gray and EVZEE. Props also to Evan for controlling the dope visual flows up on the wall. You also haven't seen the last of him.
When will CLUSTERFUNK return?! What madness will be conjured up next time?! What about the children?!?!?
Answers, in time, will be revealed. For now, I leave you with a video of Mr. Bootsy Collins teaching all of us the basic funk formula.

CLUSTERFUNK IS BACK, BABY!!
Greetings, fellow funk fanatics, soul steppers, Motown maniacs, and other assorted lovers of smooth grooves and bomb-ass beats! Just when you thought CLUSTERFUNK was dead and gone, I bring you the fantastic news that in fact there is new life being breathed into our beloved funk circus! Yes, as you probably read in the poster above, CLUSTERFUNK is being reincarnated at a new, kickass venue called Cameo. The reason why many of you may be wondering why you haven't heard of such a place is that Cameo is Williamsburg's best-kept secret... there's not even a sign out front! No, the cool kids know to walk into Lovin' Cup Cafe, rest a few minutes to enjoy the best grilled cheese you'll ever have (it's made with fucking truffle oil), then walk to the back past the newly renovated bathrooms, through a dark and winding hall, to finally arrive at this hip spot.
Yes, September the 25th will mark a triumphant return of CLUSTERFUNK with two awesome DJ's (James Lucius Gray of Team Animal Riot and DJ EVZEE), opening and closing the night; sandwiched in between the record-spinnin' will be Turkuaz (no duh) and our new friends Ikebe Shakedown, a great afro-beat band that should certainly tickle your fancy if you enjoyed Budos Band at the last CLUSTERFUNK.
There are a few key (and by key I mean totally sweet) features of this new CLUSTERFUNK that are worth noting:
1) Hand the lovely bartender a crisp, clean $5 bill and you bill be handed in exchange a shot of whiskey and a can of Pabst Blue Ribbon's finest offerings. Before enjoying the aforementioned cheap potables, hand said bartender an extra dollar or two. Be cheap, not stingy! This shot-beer combo is called a Cameo. Get it?
2) This time the party is on a Friday night! That means no excuses to not stay til the wee hours of the morn dancing your ass off to James Lucius Gray's exquisite DJ set. Getting hungry amidst all your dancing? Walk back into Lovin Cup and get a goddamn grilled cheese like I already mentioned! Then come back to the party, get another Cameo...
3) Cameo is considerably smaller and more intimate than Europa, where the first CLUSTERFUNK was held. This means fewer sweaty bodies can fit in the room, meaning if your lazy, always-running-late ass doesn't show up until halfway through the party, the room might be at capacity! I recommend getting there at 8, filling up your belly with proteins and carbohydrates in Lovin' Cup to soak up the impending onslaught of booze, then hitting Cameo at 9 to hear DJ EVZEE's set.
I'll keep you posted on any other updates that may arise. In the mean time, spread the word! This CLUSTERFUNK is shaping up to be way more kickass than the last one, but this can only happen if you help! Let's pack this joint. I know we can.
Love,
Josh from Turkuaz
P.S. Check out DJ EVZEE's latest mix here.
